What is ROM Patcher

A ROM patcher is a software tool used to apply a patch file to an original game ROM in order to create a modified version of that game. Instead of distributing full modified ROM files, developers typically release small patch files (such as IPS, BPS, UPS, or XDELTA) that contain only the differences between the original game and the edited version. The ROM patcher combines the patch file with the correct base ROM to generate a new, updated ROM. How to Patch

Patch Formats

Different communities use different patch formats. Below is a simple explanation of the most common ones you’ll see when patching ROM hacks.
